Situated in the famous archipelago islands of Orkney, surrounded by the lovely green country side is our family dairy farm, Bain.
We are located in Sandwick, in the West mainland of Orkney. Situated between the world renowned archeological sites Ring of Brodgar, and the Neolithic village Skara Brae.
The Farm has been in the Hourie Family for four generations now, and 2020 marks 100 years belonging to us! Willie and Kirstin, husband and wife team, manage the farm together, along with their children Lara and David being involved in loads of different ways (as well as their beloved dogs, Lucy and Cleo!).
Life on the farm never stops, from milking the cows morning and evening, feeding calves, spring work, silage, harvest and coping in the weather beaten dark winters we have here in Orkney!
For years we really wanted to create produce from our own milk, and in 2017 we bit the bullet, and the idea of The Orkney Dairy was born!
We applied for funding through the LEADER project, and was granted in September 2018, the project has taken just over 2 years to complete, and we couldn't be happier with how it has all turned out. We hoped to launch our dairy produce in the Spring of 2020, however the Corona Virus had different ideas and unfortunately we had to delay our launch until early 2021.
